Tetris Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

As any major awards ceremony draws close, you'll find a demand for introducing of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of video games, showing incredible range they barely qualify as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge game development, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
