Minister States Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Personnel Instructed to Refrain from Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense official has confirmed that the MoD is actively examining the potential threats posed by Chinese vehicles, while personnel have been told to avoid talking about classified information in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for Defence Staff

During a recent appearance on LBC, a defence minister commented on reports that MoD officials have been told not to talk about classified material while travelling in Chinese cars.

He said that the ministry is “investigating” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but noted that security is a issue in every contemporary cars.

We have a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their car, not to have conversations at a secret classification in any kind of vehicle, because of the growing threats of surveillance that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those confidential talks in secure locations. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone concerned about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Defence Context

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese buses, which could allow the Chinese government to disable public transport and bring disruption to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian intelligence vessel has been directing lasers at RAF aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.

The broader defence situation highlights the significance of robust protocols and vigilance in all areas of government operations, from transport usage to discussions habits.
